Can you imagine Houston without power plants, chemical plants, or oil refineries? If repairs to the turbines and compressors that run those facilities aren’t done correctly, it could be a reality. Thankfully there are machinists to keep this city moving.
One of these skilled artisans has dedicated his life to learning the craft of turbine component repair and opened a shop right here in Houston. Meet Dean Hendricks.
A Good Friend Got Me In The Door
My interest in machining started in high school. I saw it as an art form and was lucky enough to have a friend whose dad owned a shop. He let me work on his manual machines and gave me the experience I needed to land a turbine machining job with General Electric (GE).
GE Taught Me Most Of What I Know
I started July 5th, working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. I’d be in there until 2 am working on problems and spent more time on the road than at home the first ten years.
While this may sound like a terrible situation to most, it was a sacrifice I was willing to make to learn more about turbine components and hone my skills. I greatly appreciate everything they taught me.
I stayed with GE for over 19 years, as a machinist and in management, until another friend and future business partner told me about a small shop he found.
Kent And I opened Our Houston Machine Shop
Moving from an employee to an owner gave me the power to hire other machinists who are skilled at using manual machines, and are willing to do what it takes to make the customer happy.
I firmly believe that if you’re not focused on customer service, you shouldn't own a business, because businesses help people.
And Continue To Do What We Can For Our Customers
I was in the shop at 9 pm the other night because a customer needed to drop off parts. He said he was willing to spend the night and drop them off in the morning and was surprised when I told him I’d be there in 30 minutes.
Customer service has been and always will be TCR’s number one priority. We achieved ISO 9001:2015 ABS #54215 Certification to ensure consistent quality and provide peace of mind. And are always willing to do the work it takes.
How can we go above and beyond for you?
